Longueville House
The O’Callaghan family’s elegant Georgian mansion is set in 500 acres of private wooded grounds, and the location - overlooking the famous River Blackwater, and the ruins of the original O’Callaghan home, Dromineen Castle - is lovely. The present house dates from 1720, with wings added in 1800, and the wonderful Turner conservatory, which has been completely renovated, was built in 1862 - romantically draped with muslin, this historic conservatory and the adjacent Presidents Restaurant (named after the family collection of specially commissioned portraits of all Ireland’s past presidents) make a stunning backdrop for a memorable wedding dinner cooked by renowned chef-proprietor William O’Callaghan.
This wedding venues river, farm and garden supply the kitchen with fresh salmon in season, Longueville lamb, and all the fruit and vegetables - and, in good years, the estate’s crowning glory is their own house wine, a light refreshing white, “Coisreal Longueville”.
Arriving guests are shown to the bar and drawing room, both elegantly furnished with beautiful fabrics and family antiques, and accommodation is equally sumptuous.
Longueville House has been approved to host civil marriage ceremonies on site. This means that they can host your wedding and reception in the same exquisite venue, with no complicated upheavals for your wedding party. Civil wedding ceremonies are approved to take place in two areas on site, in both The Presidents’ Room & The Library. For Civil Ceremonies, they can accommodate up to 60 Guests. The Presidents’ Room will hold 60 Guests and for smaller numbers, The Library will hold 18 Guests. There is a charge of €160 for this room hire. The Presidents’ Restaurant will hold 38 Guests, the Turner Conservatory 74 guests and for smaller numbers, The Library will hold 16 Guests and all are inter-connected. Should your Guest numbers exceed 128 guests, they can offer The Chinese Room as an additional dining area, set slightly separately from the other three dining areas. This lovely room seats 16 guests.
Pampering afternoons for brides and girlfriends can be arranged, with cosmetics appointment by appointment - and this is a wonderful place to spend a few days: Cork, Kinsale and Kenmare are all nearby, or you could just spend a relaxing day loafing around.
