Renvyle House Hotel
In one of the country’s most remote and hauntingly beautiful areas, this famous Lutyens-esque house in Connemara has a romantic and fascinating history - and its position, on the edge of the Atlantic with the Twelve Bens mountain range providing the backdrop, is stunning. The hotel seems to be snuggling down for shelter and the original building has a cosy atmosphere, with its dark beams, rug strewn floors and open fires - and a conservatory where guests can survey the sheltered garden, and the landscape beyond. This wedding venues a magical spot and the local church is just a few minutes by car and wedding blessings are possible at the hotel too. The welcome reception is held in the characterful ‘long lounge’ or, in fine weather, the conservatory, followed by dinner in the restaurant or the Courtyard (a pleasant room also used for conferences), depending on numbers; a classical pianist plays through dinner and later music and dancing is in the Courtyard.
Head chef Tim O’Sullivan has a great reputation for his way with local produce, especially seafood and Connemara lamb; there’s a flexible attitude to menu planning and wide choice to select from ‘no hidden costs, you pay for what you choose’. Accommodation varies considerably within the hotel; most rooms are in the newer sections and there are nine suites (including three for families).
One of the outstanding features of Renvyle is the huge amount there is to do, both on site and in the area - a programme can be arranged for guests, who should be encouraged to spend at least two or three days in this magical place.
